Karl Hostetler, MD
Dr. Hostetler is the co-inventor of Antiva Biosciences’ intellectual property with two UCSD scientists. Dr. Hostetler was previously a founder and served on the Boards of Directors of three biopharmaceutical companies: Vical, Inc. (VICL), Triangle Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Gilead Sciences), and Chimerix Inc. (CMRX). He retired from Chimerix in 2012 to found Hera Therapeutics, Inc., now Antiva Biosciences, Inc. In 2012, Dr. Hostetler was the recipient of the Gertrude Elion Memorial Award from the International Society for Antiviral Research for his work in antiviral drug design. He has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific publications and is an inventor on 44 issued US Patents. Dr. Hostetler holds an M.D. degree from Western Reserve University and is currently Emeritus Professor of Medicine in the School of Medicine at UCSD.
